2007 ICC Cricket World Cup

The 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup will be hosted by the West Indies from March 13 to April 28, 2007. There will be a total of 51 matches played at the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, which is three fewer than at the 2003 World Cup, despite the two extra teams taking part. It will be contested by 16 nations divided into four groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group will then compete in a "Super 8" format, similar to the previous "Super 6" format, from which the semi-finalists will be decided. The Official Song for this World Cup is "The Game of Love and Unity" by Jamaican-born Shaggy, Barbadian entertainer Rupee and Trinidadian Faye-Ann Lyons.

The Greenfield Stadium, Trelawny, Jamaica will host the Opening Ceremony on 11 March. The ten Test match playing countries and Kenya qualified for this World Cup automatically, and 5 further teams qualified via the 2005 ICC Trophy, thus gaining ODI status. The field of sixteen teams is the largest ever for the Cricket World Cup.

2007 Rugby World Cup

The 2007 Rugby World Cup will be the sixth Rugby World Cup, for the quadrennial world championship. It will be hosted by France from September 7 to October 20 of 2007. France won the right to host the event in 2003, beating a bid from England.

Over 90 nations participated in the regional qualifying competitions that started in 2004. The eight quarter-finalists from the 2003 event automatically qualified, eleven further nations have qualified, with one outstanding repechage between Uruguay and Portugal to be played in March 2007.

This World Cup will have 20 nations contesting 48 matches over 44 days. Forty-two matches will be spread between ten French cities, with four matches to be held in Cardiff, Wales and two matches in Edinburgh, Scotland.

FIFA Women's World Cup China 2007

The FIFA Women's World Cup 2007 will be held in China from September 10-30 2007.[1] Originally, China was to host the 2003 Women's World Cup, but the outbreak of SARS in that country forced that event to be moved to the United States. FIFA immediately granted the 2007 event to China, which means that no new host nation will be chosen competitively until voting is held for the 2011 Women's World Cup. The 2007 Championship is seen as a prelude to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, for which China is preparing at an accelerated pace with a high budget and much fanfare.

16 nations will participate in the Women's World Cup finals. As the host, China will automatically qualify, having saved its automatic entry in 2003. The remaining fifteen berths were divided as follows, with at least one going to each of the six FIFA confederations: five to Europe, three to Asia (including hosts China), two to Africa, two to South America, two to North America, Central America and the Caribbean and one to Oceania. The 16th qualifier will be determined through a play-off between the third placed teams from Asia (Japan) and CONCACAF (Mexico).
